Tips for Parents of Challenge Students
- Plan to meet the Challenge Teacher at Curriculum Night, and discuss your student's interests and challenges during Curriculum Night
- Sign up for the parent / teacher conference
- Ask how you can volunteer to help in his/her classroom (they often have less help from parents than the classroom teachers but can use help copying, working in small groups, independent day, etc.)
- If your schedule permits, stop in and watch his/her class one day to get a feel of the flow and expectations of the class (much smaller ratio of student/teacher)
- Offer to bring treats on a "game" day" - the teacher and students will enjoy it!
- Keep in touch via phone / e-mail regarding any questions and/or concerns you may have; develop that team of support for your child early in the year
- Participate in CANDO events, sometimes Challenge teachers attend these events -- a good way to connect outside of school hours
